Lots on Board for Caboose Day August 9 at Kings Park

It’s that time of year again, when train and history lovers can meet up at Kings Park to get a closer look at the two special TOG landmarks: the caboose and train station depot.

The Greenfield Historical Society’s annual Caboose Day will be held August 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kings Park, 4000 State Highway 9N (the corner of Porter Corners Rd. and 9N).

There will be food for purchase and many local vendors displaying their products for sale. Costumed historians will be on hand to lead you through the railroad history. What’s more, you can even take a train ride with the Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway (SC&H).

Purchase Greenfield Flyer tickets here: https://corinthtrain.com/train-rides/greenfield-flyer/ Trains will be available to the event from the SC&H railroad station in Corinth or train rides from Kings Station to Lamouth Landing on Canty Road at 11, 12, 1 and 2 p.m. (ages 13+ $10, ages 12 and under $5).

The train boards and drops off from the railway up the road, but we have a shuttle to run you down back and forth to Kings Park.

Adirondack Live Steamers, a private, members-only local club for train enthusiasts, will be present and displaying a number of beautiful miniature cabooses. You can vote for your favorite! You can learn more about this local club that features a 7 ¼” (mini passenger) train consisting of miles of track on 39 acres.

The Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Kids Corner will have wooden trains for the kids to paint and take home. They will also have staff present who will lead a discussion and demonstration or railroad air brakes.

It will be a day of educational fun for all ages.

Officials to Gather to Celebrate New Historical Marker

Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch will be joined by other Town Board members to unveil a National Historic Transportation Marker at the site of its railroad depot at Kings Station Park, 4000 State Route 9N, at noon on August 9 during the annual Caboose Day celebration.
