Operation Toy Train to Stop in Greenfield 11/15 to Kick-Off Town Gift Collection and Holiday Season

Operation Toy Train will be arriving to Greenfield for an official kick-off to the holiday season and this year’s Greenfield “TOGether Gift Drive.” Santa & Mrs. Claus will be joined by Buddy the Elf, some local leaders and other friends on a Saratoga Corinth & Hudson holiday train that will make a stop at 101 Canty Rd. in Greenfield at 2 p.m. on November 15.

Greenfield is holding its third annual drive for toys, and its Recreation Department distributes the gifts to families in need with help from Greenfield Elementary School. The event is free and should last approximately 45 minutes. Cocoa and cookies will be distributed and there will be plenty of opportunities to take photos. When the train arrives, a boxcar will open to reveal the local band Rustic Spirit and a short concert. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. The public may also drop gifts off to Greenfield Town Hall or at the town’s tree-lighting ceremony Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.

“We hope the event give residents a fun event to start thinking about the holiday season,” said Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch. “We hope that by working with Operation Toy Train, this year’s gift program will be even more successful than ever.”

Operation Toy Train is an annual toy collection train that will be travelling to 48 cities across five states. Saratoga Corinth & Hudson’s holiday train will also be making stops at Corinth Station, 33 Railroad Place at 3:30 p.m. and Hadley Station, 4113 Rockwell St. at 5 p.m. The holiday train will include a red box car, an open-air car, a lounge car and a caboose, all decorated for the Christmas season.

“We are delighted to work with Greenfield on this special event,” said Saratoga & Corinth Railway Owner Hal Raven. “We hope to have some really special guests aboard the train and a crowd of all ages to enjoy our holiday train.”
