Contact Jen Zeisler to reserve a cart and let your most creative juices flow into your themed trick or treat stop at the TOG Fall Festival this year.

GREENFIELD N.Y. – Greenfield will hold its Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Brookhaven Golf Course. Recreation Director Jen Zeisler said this community-focused “Halloween bash” promises to be more magical than ever this year, with families and businesses preparing weeks in advance for its themed golf cart trick or treating path.

The day begins with an Oktoberfest 5K at 10 a.m. and is followed by a full afternoon including: trick or treating to decorated golf carts sprinkled on the course, Giant Pumpkin growing and donut eating contests, inflatable obstacle courses, live music, food specials, a live animal show and more. The afternoon Fall Festival festivities are from 1 to 4 p.m. at Brookhaven Golf Course, 333 Alpine Meadows Rd., Porter Corners.

Interested businesses, families and other groups may reserve a golf cart to decorate and hand out candy. Call 518-893-7432, ext. 307 to reserve a cart and participate in the fun. No registration is necessary to attend the free event. Hundreds attended last year and carts featured Halloween-inspired themes. Last year’s winner was the Mihalik family with its “spooky carnival” theme that featured an assortment of clowns, and other carnival scenery such as a kissing booth and elephant act. Other carts included a graveyard candy shoot, a skeleton crew ambulance and a Wizard of Oz movie scene titled “somewhere over the rainbow.” Families can vote for contest winners.

“It is an amazing day of community,” said Recreation Director Jennifer Zeisler. “So many residents and businesses get involved in our competition for the most creatively decorated golf cart. We have the most beautiful fall vistas and fun for all ages. We have added a fun inflatable obstacle course for this year. We hope that families will stay for the afternoon.”

Trick-or-treating will take place from 1- 3 p.m.. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. there will be a live animal show from “Unchartered Wild Animals,” featuring interactive encounters with reptiles. There will be live music and menu specials as well as grab and go lunch items for sale outside. Between 3-4 p.m. Greenfield Recreation will hold games and contests. There are prizes for the Giant Pumpkin growing contest, donut eating contest and a coveted golf-cart trophy for the winners of the trick-or-treat stops.

Octoberfest 5K to Benefit Greenfield Ski and Snowshoe Park

The day starts early with a 10 a.m. annual “Oktoberfest 5K,” to benefit its Brookhaven Winter Park, a fall trail run across what becomes Brookhaven Winter Park each winter with free groomed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails. Registration is $25 at skireg.com. The 5K course meanders throughout the wooded ski trails. A 1K “fun run” for kids is scheduled at 11 a.m. and its registration will be onsite.

“This event has grown to one of our most highly anticipated events each year, said Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch. “We are happy as a municipality to offer safe trick or treating and family fun for the community.”

The Town of Greenfield is home to 8,200 residents and spans more than 41,000 acres of land, making it the largest town in Saratoga County, by square mile. O.B. Beyer Recreation Park Inc., an employee organization of the International Paper Mill in Corinth, N.Y., opened the Brookhaven facility in 1960 and donated it to the Town in 2011. Brookhaven is a municipal golf course that sits in the foothills of the Adirondacks, in Porter Corners, just minutes from Saratoga Springs. Its slogan, “Not your ordinary walk in the woods,” refers to the mission of preserving the natural integrity of the 395-acres of land, while making it available to residents for recreational use throughout the year. The fall festival event started during the COVID-19 pandemic to offer residents safe trick or treating.
